What procedure should be followed before welding a texture area?

  • We strongly advise against welding embossing services, as we cannot guarantee that the results will prove acceptable. However, if welding the embossing face is absolutely necessary, then the following steps should be followed.

  • Matching the welding rod or wire to the mold material is the first step to ensuring a good, texture ready weld.

  • Heating the repair area and surrounding material prior to welding will help ensure a good bond.

  • Color matching (normalizing) the weld area with the surrounding material is critical to ensure even etch rates.

  • Always consult your material supplier for welding specifications particular to your material type.

What should be done in the case of texture repairs?

  • Be sure to contact Custom Etch Rolls to discuss any roll damage that involves the texture face. We will be glad to assist you with choosing the best repair solution for your specific situation.

What size rolls can Custom Etch Rolls handle?

  • Custom Etch Rolls has yet to encounter a roll size we could not texture. We have textured rolls as small as a thimble, with diameters up to 60 inches, and embossing faces more than 15 feet wide.

How are texture costs estimated?

  • Although roll size is a factor, there are many considerations that affect cost – complexity of the pattern selected, new pattern development, material type, and turnaround time requirements are some examples. For the most accurate cost and time estimate, contact your Custom Etch Rolls representative as early as possible with roll drawings and/or textured sample material.

What is the average turnaround for your service?

  • Our average turnaround to texture a supplied “green” roll is three to four weeks. This changes when services such as repairs, grind/polishing, or art development are added to the project. The best way to determine accurate project timing is to contact us.
